Week 19 of Beeny Knows Best, where our very own Sarah Beeny takes to the blog to answer your property-related questions.
Where is the best place to get advice on mortgages? I spoke to my bank but I don't feel like they gave me the best advice or support.. but I don't know how to find other options? - Sian
There are some brilliant mortgage advice websites out there, but personally I have always used an independent mortgage broker. You have to pay a fee, but I prefer this as I know it's a totally independent advice as they are not getting a kick back for pushing one particular mortgage or another from one bank or another.
What are your thoughts on the 'shared ownership' scheme? Is it worth considering for a first-time buyer? - Malik
They are a great way to get onto the property ladder if you have no other options and are really keen to buy. However, they don't come without a few downsides. You are less free to do as you please, and when it comes to sell you will need to go through a sometimes lenghtier and more complicated processes which may hold up a sale.
If you have a question that you'd like Sarah to answer in next week's post, email it across to email@example.com with the subject line 'Beeny knows best'.
