The world of film has been abuzz with Oscars talk this week as this year’s nominations for the 88th Academy Awards have been announced.
There were no real jaw-droppers on the 2016 list: The Revenant leading the way with 12 nominations, closely followed by Mad Max: Fury Road, which secured 10.
While the stars prepare for the biggest film event of the year on February 28, here at Tepilo we have taken a look at where some of these A-list stars spend their spare time.
Let’s face it, we’re all curious what level of grandeur they live in, so here we look at what property fame and fortune has bought them...
Matt Damon: The Martian
Matt Damon is no stranger to the Oscars, having already won an award back in 1998 for his role in Good Will Hunting. In 2016 he’s up for a gong again, this time for his appearance in The Martian – a role for which he has already received a Golden Globe.
Property-wise, his high-profile status means he is able to live a life of luxury we’re all envious of. His current property was purchased back in 2013 for a cool $15 million, according to property portal Lamudi.
It comprises interconnected glass, stone and wood, all surrounding a central atrium; somewhere Jason Bourne himself would feel at home. Unsurprisingly the property also contains a state-of-the-art gym, to ensure that Matt stays in shape to compete with his Hollywood counterparts like Ben Affleck, who lives close by.
Cate Blanchett: Carol
Blanchett has made herself a household name, thanks largely to two Academy awards and multiple nominations. This year she's bagged herself a nomination for best actress in a leading role for her portrayal of Carol in the film of the same name.
This leading Aussie lady has also decided to up sticks, selling her Sydney mansion and instead choosing to bed down in the picturesque English countryside with her husband Andrew Upton and their four children.
Their English home is something only Cinderella could dream of, with its seven bedrooms and bathrooms and hand-crafted interior. The Crowborough mansion – which has 13 acres of land – was also home to another famous resident; none other than Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan-Doyle.
Leonardo DiCaprio: The Revenant
So the Academy Awards have come around again, and it’s another year that Leonardo Dicaprio’s name has been thrown in the hat. He's been notoriously unlucky when it comes to Academy Awards; being nominated five times in the last 12 years to no avail.
However, he has already won a Golden Globe for his role in The Revenant this year, so it’s looking promising for one of the world’s leading actors.
Unlike Oscars, he has several properties, one of which is in Palm Springs, which was purchased back in 2014. With its six bedrooms, spa and tennis court, it’s an abode not too different from Jordan Belfort’s extravagant pad in The Wolf of Wall Street.
But don’t fear, if hearing about Leo’s high-end property gives you that sinking feeling (get it?) then don’t worry, you can rent it for $4,500 a night if you fancy splashing the cash.
Kate Winslet: Steve Jobs
The English Rose herself, Kate Winslet has had almost as much trouble as her co-star Mr DiCaprio at bagging an Oscar. That was until 2009, when she won an Academy Award for her role in The Reader. This year, she has been nominated again, this time for her role as Joanna Hoffman; the moral compass to the undeniably talented Apple creator Steve Jobs.
Like many of her roles, Winslet is known for being feisty, especially when it comes to property. She attempted to have a sea wall built close to her Sussex home to protect against the risk of flooding. Her beautiful 17th Century eight-bedroom property – which she shares with her three children and husband, Ned Rocknroll – is definitely something worth protecting.
Winslet is hoping to add value to this already spectacular home, and is in the process of building a swimming pool, pool house and garage to ensure she continues to leave her local property rivals behind.
