As we edge further into the cold depths of winter, the focus is often on spending more time at home, and what better way to spend your time then by sprucing up of one of the most important rooms in your home; the bedroom?

A room designed to invoke peace and serenity at all times, it’s crucial that you don't neglect this part of the home – especially if you're thinking about putting your home on the market in the near future.  A bedroom is meant to be a haven, so don’t let its design bore you to sleep every time you enter it.

Peoples' homes are often considered as an extension of their style, so it's important to ensure every bit of a bedroom reflects that. It could be wise to take the time to spruce up a bedroom now before minds and diaries get preoccupied with all things festive.

Choose metallic

Metallic is one of the most popular overriding interior design trends for the whole home this winter, particularly in bedrooms. If your boudoir is currently a blank canvas with minimalist décor, then choosing silver wallpaper for a centre wall or silver cushions would be a wise move if you want to be in vogue this winter.

If you’re not quite ready to go overboard with this trend, using softer metallic shades of copper and rose gold in your bedroom could be just the way of incorporating a trend without sacrificing the feel of your room.

Copper is a particularly great shade to include in your bedroom, invoking autumn leaves falling and signalling the end of summer. Copper lamps, candle holders, curtains; all are timeless editions to your home which will bring an element of grandeur, too!

Soft furnishings

As winter gets into full swing, it’s most definitely time to add soft, warm furnishings and fabrics to your home, and in steps Australian designer UGG. Best-known for their super-warm boots, they’ve now branched out into home furnishings.

The key for furnishings this winter is the plusher and more strokeable the better; and these items certainly fit the bill. UGG's range consists of cushions, blankets and rugs. It’s a little pricey, so it depends if you’re willing to splash the cash and ease the cold spells in style.

Zebra print

Each season, there’s usually a print which comes out on top in the interior design world, and this year it’s the zebra. That said, we would advise that you don’t combine this trend with too much metallic, as it could come across a little over the top.

However, adding this pattern is a sure-fire way to inject vibrancy and personality into a blander looking bedroom. A popular way of incorporating the zebra pattern is through a rug or throw, or if you’re feeling exceedingly adventurous, why not get some zebra print curtains? This is also a trend that will bring you right round to next summer, so you won’t have to worry about redecorating any time soon.

Light bulbs with a difference

It seems as each season passes, another new innovative household item is created, and this winter it’s voice controlled light bulbs for your bedroom. These could definitely be on your Christmas wish list, and are able to change colour and be voice controlled via an app on your smart phone. A timer and dimmer can also be set up; a pretty impressive addition to any bedroom space, especially for those who love their gadgets.

With only a few weeks until the festive period gets into full swing, its crucial you flex your creative interior design muscles now, so that when guests come to visit over the festive period, you have a bedroom to be proud of.
