Security Lighting

Security lighting is a great idea, not just to deter burglars but also to provide a welcoming light outside the front door and stop people tripping over in the dark. All too often, security lighting is horribly harsh and intrusive, triggered by a passive infrared (PIR) sensor to be on for 20 seconds whenever anyone walks past. It's less annoying for neighbours if you situate the sensor inside a gate - always make sure you have a facility to switch it on from inside the house - and with the light above the front door rather than glaring across the street. It's also more environmentally friendly to use a low-wattage unit if you can.
