I’m now back after a long weekend of travels around what seemed like every town in England!! My time away from the internet and my computer meant I could ponder on my (our?) property journey ahead.
The first thing that hit me was how much I have to learn. Most of this will have to come from the experience of making my first few property transactions but I really hope that I can knuckle down and try to avoid a lot of mistakes that other people have made.
So I thought it would be a good idea to “plan the planning”, as it were. The main question is - where will I get my info? I’m anticipating that these will be my sources in order of importance:
My property network (currently a work in progress). My property network will be both on and off-line and be made up of property investors, mortgage brokers, surveyors, estate agents, friends, mentors…..in fact anyone who can speak from experience and who has a valid opinion to put forward. I want to try to get some of these people to put some posts up here too.
Experts. These will be those people with whom I have no direct contact but who still are worth following and learning from.
Books. Over the years I have read quite a number of books about property investing. These are mostly outdated now, having possibly relied on an economy pre-2007 for their calculations. However some have been great and I will put a new box on this blog at some point to give detailed reviews of each. Any suggestions for good books (or any reviews you would like me to publish) will be gratefully received.
Blogs and online info resources. This goes without saying. There’s a huge amount of information on many thousands of property websites. I’d like to review as much of this information as possible and present only the best ideas here in my posts so that when I look back over my diary, I have a nice concise info resource.
Right, I’m off to try to build up my property network some more.
With thanks to Pete from his Property Journey website, where he's sharing every success and failure on his ongoing journey from property amateur to buy-to-let entrepreneur. Follow him at http://propertyjourney.tumblr.com, Twitter: @propertyjourney and find him on Facebook.
